A tragic incident occurred on October 21, 2021, on the set the film "Rust." Halyna Hutchins, an actress working on the set, was killed by an accidental shot. Following an investigation, the Santa Fe DA's Office charged Hannah Gutiérrez-Reed and Alec Baldwin with involuntary manslaughter.
After reviewing the evidence, Mary Carmack-Altwies, the First District Attorney of New Mexico, decided that there was enough evidence to indict Baldwin and the film's crew.
"According to her, everyone should be held accountable for their actions. She noted that the evidence revealed a pattern of criminal recklessness on the set of "Rust." New Mexico's film industry is not allowed to operate without taking the state's commitment to public safety and gun safety seriously."
SPECIAL PROSECTOR REEB: “If any one of these three people—Alec Baldwin, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed or David Halls—had done their job, Halyna Hutchins would be alive today. It’s that simple"

During a stunt gone wrong, Baldwin reportedly shot Halyna Hutchins, who was working on the set. According to eyewitnesses, Hannah Gutiérrez-Reid gave Baldwin what appeared to be a gun that was filled with blanks. However, it turned out that the weapon actually contained live rounds.
Baldwin has since stated that he followed proper procedures throughout the course of the shoot. He also claims that his finger did not touch the trigger before the incident.
Unfortunately, this didn't go far enough as investigators still indicted Baldwin and Gutiérrez-Reid.
Well, THAT didn’t wear well…

The incident has caused a ripple effect in Hollywood circles. It has raised questions about the safety standards that producers follow in the production of films.
Although it's not yet clear how Baldwin and Gutirez-Reid will fare during their trial, it's widely expected that their careers will take a hit if they are found guilty of involuntary manslaughter.
