In a recent House Oversight subcommittee hearing, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made some wild claims about the potential impact of banning biological men from women’s sports. The New York Democrat went on a tirade about “men attempting to restrict the rights of women,” stirring up fear about “genital examinations” for girls if these bans were put in place. She even invoked an Ohio bill that proposed “internal and external” exams to determine eligibility, as if that’s something being seriously considered.

Ocasio-Cortez also managed to bring up abortion and the recent Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision in her rant, suggesting that proposed abortion laws in states would place women under surveillance and invade their privacy. It’s as if she’s trying to scare people into thinking that all women’s rights are under attack at the same time. The dramatics are off the charts!
And of course, she couldn’t resist taking a swipe at the panel of men before her, claiming they haven’t “actually thought about the biology and privacy consequences of all women.” Classic AOC, always trying to make it about gender and identity politics.
But let’s not get carried away with the hysterics. The real issue here is about fairness in women’s sports. Just ask former University of Kentucky swimmer Riley Gaines, who had to compete against a biological male in the NCAA swimming championship. Now that’s a real example of the kind of injustice these bans are trying to prevent.
It’s no surprise that AOC is trying to hijack the conversation with her dramatics and fearmongering. But at the end of the day, it’s about protecting the integrity of women’s sports and ensuring a level playing field. And no amount of hyperbole from AOC can change that!
