Allies of President Joe Biden are saying that it would be racist for California Governor Gavin Newsom to run for president, which is both funny and ridiculous. According to these Biden allies, Newsom's possible entry into the race would be racist because it could stop Vice President Kamala Harris from becoming the country's first black female president. Yes, you read that right. They say that if Newsom runs for president, he's an anti-black racist who took Harris's job because of her gender and skin color.

This whole idea is just silly theory, of course. President Biden hasn't said that he doesn't want to run for a second term, and the Democratic Party has shown that they don't care about what their voters think. But if Biden were to drop out of the race, picking Harris as the top candidate would be as bad an idea as making Rep. Eric Swalwell the ambassador to China.
Harris's approval numbers have been terrible for most of her time as vice president, and she has shown herself to be a bad leader and manager many times. On the other hand, Newsom has the charm that the Democratic Party needs badly. He may be a hypocritical authoritarian, but that just makes him the best representative for the party as a whole. The left has already fallen in love with Newsom, and his supporters would feel much more at ease with a younger candidate like him.
Even though Newsom has said that he doesn't plan to run, it's unlikely that he could avoid the urge to jump into the race if Biden were to drop out. And if that were to happen, the Democrats would be completely crazy to choose Harris over Newsom. But then again, they have already shown that they can make iffy choices by supporting an old man with cognitive problems.
