President Joe Biden found himself at the center of online criticism after his social media account suggested that if it weren’t for Hamas, Israelis and Palestinians could live in peace. However, what Biden conveniently failed to acknowledge is that Hamas was elected by the Palestinians and actually enjoys support from a majority of them. It seems that Biden has conveniently left out this important detail.

Additionally, the president seemed to insinuate that Israel wanted the current conflict, which resulted in the death of over 1,200 Israeli citizens last month. While Biden’s account did mention the desire for peaceful coexistence between Gaza, the West Bank, and Israel, it failed to address the fact that Hamas unleashed a terrorist attack due to their fear of Israelis and Palestinians living side by side in peace. This seems like a crucial point.
It’s no surprise that Biden’s post received heavy backlash on social media, considering the majority of Palestinians support Hamas. A recent poll conducted by the Arab World for Research and Development, as reported by the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs, revealed that Palestinians have an overwhelming rejection of coexistence with Israel, with 85.9% of them being against it. Furthermore, a staggering 71.1% support the restoration of ‘historical Palestine’ and the creation of a Palestinian state ‘from the river to the sea.’ This poll only confirms the deeply ingrained rejection of peace by a significant number of Palestinians, contrary to Biden’s portrayal of the situation.
It is clear that Hamas enjoys substantial support among Palestinians, and that support unfortunately translates into violence and terrorism. While Biden may want to paint a picture of Palestinians seeking peace, the reality is far different. It’s time for the president to acknowledge these inconvenient truths instead of distorting the reality to fit his own narrative.
