Nancy Maldonado, a district judge for the anti-gun state of Illinois, has been nominated by President Joe Biden for a seat on the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. This news has sparked concern among Second Amendment supporters, given Maldonado’s past support for legal arguments in favor of banning so-called “assault weapons.” The Second Amendment, which guarantees the right to bear arms, is a fundamental part of the American Bill of Rights, and any attempts to undermine it are deeply troubling to conservatives.
During her hearing, Maldonado faced tough questions from Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) about her stance on assault weapons. When asked to define what she meant by “assault weapons,” Maldonado struggled to provide a clear answer, claiming that she was not a gun expert and had little knowledge of the topic. This lack of clarity and understanding on such an important issue further raised concerns about her qualifications to serve on the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

Conservatives have long been champions of Second Amendment rights, and their unwavering commitment to defending these rights has yielded significant victories, such as the Bruen decision. This landmark ruling clarified important questions about gun rights, including the right to carry firearms outside the home and the unconstitutionality of restrictive concealed carry permit processes in certain states. However, despite these victories, the fight to protect the Second Amendment is far from over.
The decisions in cases such as Heller, McDonald, and Bruen have dealt significant blows to the gun control agenda, but it is clear that there are still individuals who seek to undermine the constitutional rights of law-abiding Americans. The nomination of Maldonado, with her troubling stance on assault weapons, is just one example of the ongoing efforts to erode Second Amendment rights. Conservatives remain steadfast in their defense of the Constitution and will continue to oppose any attempts to strip Americans of their fundamental liberties.
