President Biden, the man who likes to remind everyone that he’s the one in charge, couldn’t resist sending an email to student loan borrowers to pat himself on the back. The email, which was sent to a whopping 813,000 borrowers, was basically a love letter from Biden to himself, congratulating them on having their debts forgiven. But let’s be honest, this so-called “relief” is nothing more than a political ploy to win over young voters who are starting to see through Biden’s empty promises.
It’s no secret that Biden’s approval rating is plummeting among Democrats, so it’s no surprise that he’s desperate to remind people of his supposed achievements. But here’s the thing: the people receiving these emails are not the young, struggling college graduates that Biden loves to talk about. No, these are older borrowers who have been making payments for 20 or 25 years under the income-driven repayment plans. Plans that, let’s face it, rarely result in any actual debt forgiveness.
Here's What Biden Just Asked of 800K Student Loan Borrowers Whose Debt He Cleared Earlier This Year

The truth is, the Biden administration has been forced to “adjust” borrowers’ accounts because of servicer errors. They’re basically admitting that they messed up and now they’re trying to save face by forgiving the debts of those who have already suffered for decades. This is not some grand gesture of compassion from Biden, it’s a clumsy attempt to fix their own mistakes.
But of course, Biden couldn’t resist adding a touch of self-righteousness to the email. He said he hoped this relief would give borrowers more breathing room and allow them to pursue their “life plans.” I’m sorry, but last time I checked, it wasn’t the government’s job to fulfill everyone’s dreams. Borrowers made a choice to take out those loans, and now they need to take responsibility for their decisions.
It’s clear that Biden is clutching at straws here. His approval rating is tanking, and he’s desperately trying to win back the support of young voters who are disillusioned with his handling of the economy. But offering empty promises and half-hearted forgiveness is not the answer. What we need is a president who is willing to take a hard look at the student loan crisis and come up with real, sustainable solutions. Sadly, that’s not the kind of leader we have in Biden.
