CDC’s Thanksgiving Fear Tactics Fail, Americans Tune Out

Over three-and-a-half years have passed since the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a global pandemic. It seems like this virus has become a permanent part of our lives, but don’t worry! The Biden administration’s Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is here to remind you just how dangerous it still is.

CDC Director Mandy Cohen, MD took to social media to lecture Americans on how to stay safe during Thanksgiving. She suggested the same old tactics of vaccines, masks, testing, and treatment. But let’s be real, folks. We know better now than we did back in 2020. These so-called “tools” may not be as effective as they claim.

Predictably, people were quick to express their distrust in the CDC and its recommendations. Hundreds of replies flooded Cohen’s post, calling out the agency’s fear-mongering tactics. It’s no surprise that the post got massively ratioed. Americans are tired of being told what to do, especially when it comes to another vaccine.

But Cohen didn’t stop there. During her appearance on the “TODAY Show,” she continued to push the updated COVID booster and spread more fear about a virus that’s been around for years now. It’s like she wants us all to live in a perpetual state of panic.

Cohen insists that COVID is here to stay and getting vaccinated is the only way to protect ourselves and our families. Well, newsflash, Cohen, vaccinated people can still get the virus too! Maybe if the CDC focused on building trust instead of pushing vaccines, they would have more success.

Unfortunately, trust is lacking when it comes to the CDC. Even the agency itself admitted to failing during the pandemic. Former Director Rochelle Walensky acknowledged the agency’s “pretty dramatic, pretty public mistakes.” And yet, Cohen expects us to listen to her now? Talk about a lack of self-awareness.

A recent survey showed that half of adults don’t plan on getting the latest vaccine, even if they were previously vaccinated. People are simply not as concerned about COVID anymore. They have other priorities and don’t have time for more vaccines and precautions.

It’s clear that the CDC’s messaging is falling on deaf ears. Americans are divided on the precautions they plan to take this holiday season. Many are opting to avoid large gatherings or wear masks in crowded places. But a significant portion of the population isn’t planning to take any of the suggested precautions. They’ve had enough of the CDC’s fear tactics.

Public trust in the CDC remains in peril, and posts like Cohen’s only exacerbate the problem. Instead of focusing on transparency and communicating with the people, maybe the CDC should step back and reassess its approach. We need real solutions, not fear-driven mandates. It’s time for the CDC to make a change, or Americans will continue to tune them out.
