The city of Chicago is facing a difficult situation with the border crisis, as more illegal immigrants and asylum seekers come into the city. The Democratic Mayor, Brandon Johnson, has requested an additional $70 million to care for these individuals, despite concerns from some Democratic aldermen about neglecting their own citizens. The budget committee voted to advance this proposal, adding to the $150 million already allocated for the migrant crisis.
It is troubling to see taxpayer funds being redirected to support newcomers while important local issues, such as after-school programs and aid for residents in need, are not adequately addressed. The push to make Chicago a sanctuary city has also drawn criticism from within the city government, with Alderman Anthony Beale highlighting the disparities in resources between newcomers and long-time residents.

Until there is a change in leadership at the federal and local levels, it is likely that this trend of neglecting citizens in favor of newcomers will continue, to the detriment of all Americans.
