Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson appeared on “CNN This Morning” to address the alarming increase in violent crime in Chicago, a city plagued by dangerous streets and lawlessness. When pressed about the surge in violent crime, Johnson tried to spin the narrative by touting a slight decrease in homicides and shootings, conveniently neglecting to mention the staggering 17% surge in overall violent crime.

In a feeble attempt to reassure Chicagoans, Mayor Johnson rambled on about his so-called “community safety plan” and boasted about throwing millions of taxpayer dollars at various programs, like homelessness and violence prevention. It’s clear that Johnson thinks he can simply throw money at the problem and hope it goes away. However, no amount of taxpayer funds can mask the fact that crime is spiraling out of control under his failed leadership.
Rather than taking responsibility for the escalating violence, Johnson shamelessly blamed the city’s woes on “failed policies” and even had the audacity to talk about allocating half a million dollars for “restoration and reparations” to address the “cycle of violence.” It’s as if he’s living in a fantasy world where throwing money at problems magically solves everything.
Mayor Johnson’s smokescreen of rhetoric and empty promises does nothing to address the root causes of crime in Chicago. Instead of making excuses and frivolously spending taxpayer dollars, Johnson needs to implement real solutions to combat the surge in violent crime and restore safety to the streets of Chicago. It’s time for real leadership, not political posturing and empty gestures.
