Congressional Oversight and Warnings
Congresswoman Luna has rightly demanded that the CIA preserve and return the records to ODNI or face contempt of Congress, and she postponed an MKUltra hearing after witnesses reportedly backed out over legitimate fears for their safety. Representative James Comer and other oversight figures have to use every tool available to force compliance and protect witnesses so Congress can do its job. If the CIA is interfering with a lawful declassification process and intimidating witnesses, that is a constitutional crisis, plain and simple.

The stakes go far beyond dusty files: MKUltra and JFK documents touch on historic abuses that must be fully exposed so they never happen again, and the public has a right to know. President Donald Trump’s push for declassification was supposed to tear down the secrecy that protects bad actors inside the permanent bureaucracy, but if agencies can simply seize records and silence witnesses, presidential authority and congressional oversight become meaningless. Conservatives must insist on both strong national security and transparent accountability; those goals are not mutually exclusive.
