Looks like the Democrats are finally starting to admit what the rest of America has known for a while: Joe Biden’s time in the political spotlight should have ended years ago. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer had a little heart-to-heart with Biden in Delaware, suggesting that he should cut his losses and drop out of the presidential race. This meeting comes as no surprise considering Biden’s plummeting approval ratings and the growing concerns within the Democratic Party about his capacity to lead.
Schumer, ever the strategic mastermind, made it clear that Biden stepping down would be better for everyone involved – Biden himself, the Democratic Party, and especially the country, which has been subjected to two years of chaotic governance. Schumer’s camp tried to play it off, calling ABC’s report speculative, but couldn’t quite muster the energy to deny it outright. The spokesperson fumbled around, insinuating that unless the information came directly from Schumer or Biden, it was just rumor-mongering.

Meanwhile, Biden’s health remains a topic of gossip and worry. He hinted in a BET interview that he might consider stepping aside if a medical issue were to arise. Conveniently, the very next day, the White House confirmed that Biden tested positive for COVID. Could this be the excuse he’s been waiting for? It’s almost like the script wrote itself.
CNN joined the chorus, noting that Biden is becoming more receptive to handing over the reins. He’s reportedly shifted from doubting Kamala Harris’s electability to openly questioning it. Polls show Harris faring slightly better against the Republican powerhouse, Donald Trump, which might explain the desperate house meetings among Democrats.
Adding fuel to the fire, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries also advised Biden to consider retirement. He sent a very official-sounding letter detailing the “full breadth of insight” from their recent meeting. Translation: the Democratic leadership is hitting the panic button and Biden is the last to find out.
Despite all the arm-twisting, Biden remains defiantly optimistic in public, insisting he can still beat Trump. What else can he say? Denial isn’t just a river in Egypt, as they say. The president’s confidence is laughable, given how many Democrats are now calling for his exit or expressing “concern” about his chances, including the outspoken Senator Cory Booker.
The pressure cooker atmosphere within the Democratic Party is only heating up. They’ve even postponed the roll call vote to nominate Biden until August, probably hoping he’ll spare them any further embarrassment by stepping down beforehand. This delay does nothing but highlight the party’s growing desperation and lack of a solid plan.
It’s clear that the Democratic establishment is trembling at the prospect of facing Trump again in 2024 with Biden as their standard bearer. The party is in turmoil, and their only strategy seems to be prolonging the inevitable while hoping for a miracle. Meanwhile, conservative Americans can sit back and enjoy the show as the Democratic Party unravels before their very eyes.
