As the Republican primary heats up and former President Donald Trump’s nomination looks more likely, those opposed to another Trump presidency are desperately searching for an alternative candidate. However, it seems that Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida may not be their chosen option, as some donors are turning their attention to other potential contenders. One name that has been floated is Governor Glenn Youngkin of Virginia, who has yet to officially declare his candidacy. This idea was discussed on NBC News’ “Meet the Press,” but one panelist, Susan Page from USA Today, not only scoffed at the notion but also spread false information about Youngkin’s record on abortion.
Why Did This Meet the Press Panelist Lie About Youngkin's Record? https://t.co/k5g2kwOyR8

Host Chuck Todd confronted Page about the disappointment donors are expressing towards DeSantis and their increased support for Youngkin. He also mentioned Rupert Murdoch’s endorsement of an alternative candidate. Page dismissively laughed off the idea of Youngkin, claiming he signed an abortion ban. However, this is a complete fabrication. Youngkin has never signed an abortion ban since pro-abortion Democrats control the Virginia state Senate. He has expressed support for protecting life at 15 weeks, following the overturning of Roe v. Wade. Youngkin has tasked the General Assembly with finding a consensus on the abortion issue, displaying his commitment to a fair and balanced approach.

Page’s attempt to undermine Youngkin’s potential candidacy by spreading false information is disingenuous and misleading. Similarly, comparing Youngkin to North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, who signed a bill banning abortions at six weeks, is an apples-to-oranges comparison. The panel conveniently avoided discussing the extreme positions of Virginia Democrats on abortion, including opposition to a 15-week ban and even legislation denying medical care to babies born alive from abortions. It is clear that Page’s intention was to downplay Youngkin’s record and discredit his chances of success.
While Page and the panel focused solely on abortion, they failed to address the other crucial issues at hand. Virginia Republicans are gearing up for the upcoming November elections, where they will defend their majority in the General Assembly and aim to reclaim the state Senate. Youngkin played a significant role in Republicans’ 2021 victory, helping them regain control of the General Assembly. He prioritized parents’ rights during his campaign, a crucial issue for voters that contributed to his win. Furthermore, Youngkin’s administration has remained committed to addressing the concerns of parents, making Virginia a battleground for this critical issue.
It is evident that Page’s biased reporting, fueled by her own personal agenda, resulted in the misrepresentation of Youngkin’s record and the dismissal of his electoral success. Her attempt to manipulate the narrative and downplay the significance of his win in November 2021 is nothing short of a drive to push her own agenda. Youngkin’s campaign against Terry McAuliffe was a tight race, with national attention and heated debates. Ironically, the first debate between Youngkin and McAuliffe was moderated by none other than Susan Page herself, raising questions about her impartiality.
As the Republican primary unfolds, it is crucial to scrutinize the biased narratives pushed by media figures like Susan Page. Youngkin’s potential candidacy should not be dismissed based on false information and skewed perspectives. Voters should carefully analyze his record, policies, and the success he has already achieved, rather than relying on biased reporting to form their opinions.
