The news of former President Donald Trump potentially being indicted this week by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg on allegations that he illegally paid hush money to adult film star Stormy Daniels has been met with mixed reactions. While many on the left have welcomed the prospect of Trump being arrested, billionaire Elon Musk predicted that their perspective will change. In a tweet this weekend, Musk argued that targeting the former president will only catapult him back into the White House, claiming that Trump will be re-elected in a landslide victory if he is arrested.

The five-year-long investigation into the $130,000 payment in 2016 by Trump’s former attorney Michael Cohen to Daniels has been ongoing. Critics allege that the payment constituted an illegal campaign expenditure, but George Washington University Law School professor Jonathan Turley has raised questions about whether such a case could even be brought. Turley pointed out that there are a “number of flaws” in the legal theory and that the statute of limitations is about two years on this offense, which has already run. He also suggested that any effort on the part of Bragg to indict Trump would likely be motivated by political considerations.

These allegations against Trump are yet another example of the left’s attempts to undermine the former president and his supporters. It is clear that they are willing to go to any lengths to try and discredit him and his administration, even if it means stretching the truth or bending the rules. This is a dangerous precedent to set and it is important that we stand up for our rights as Americans and protect our democracy from those who wish to do it harm.
It is also important to remember that while Trump may have made some mistakes during his time in office, he was still a successful president who accomplished many things for our country. He was able to cut taxes, create jobs, and bring much-needed economic growth to our nation. His policies were beneficial for many Americans, and it is unfair to try and tarnish his legacy with these baseless allegations.
The left’s attempts to indict Trump are nothing more than a political witch hunt and should be seen as such. It is clear that they are trying to score political points by going after the former president, and it is important that we do not let them get away with it. We must stand up for our rights and fight back against these attempts to undermine our democracy.
