In the latest scandal to rock the FBI, House investigators have uncovered shocking details about the bureau’s targeting of traditional Catholics. According to the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Weaponization of Government, the FBI conducted interviews with a priest and a church choir director, and even went so far as to enlist an undercover agent to infiltrate a church. Yes, you read that right, folks – the FBI was spying on innocent Catholics!
The subpoenas issued in the probe revealed that the FBI specifically honed in on Americans who hold pro-life, pro-family, and traditional views on sex and gender. It’s outrageous to think that simply holding conservative beliefs could land you in the crosshairs of the FBI. But that’s exactly what was happening here, folks.

Not only did the FBI conduct interviews with church leaders, but they also targeted parishioners who identified as “radical traditionalist Catholics.” It’s clear that the FBI was on a witch hunt, using vague and undefined terms like “radical traditionalist” to cast suspicion on law-abiding citizens. The FBI’s actions reek of profiling and discrimination against those who hold conservative Christian values.
This scandal isn’t isolated to just one FBI office. House investigators found that the probe relied on reporting from multiple field offices across the country, including Los Angeles, Milwaukee, and Portland, Oregon. It’s a disturbing pattern of overreach and intrusion into the lives of innocent Americans.
The leaked document from the Richmond field office, which suggested that Catholics who preferred the traditional Latin Mass were more likely to engage in violent extremism, is deeply troubling. The FBI proposed developing sources within the Catholic clergy and church leadership, further demonstrating their willingness to infiltrate and surveil religious institutions based on flimsy and biased assumptions.
To make matters worse, the FBI memo linking traditional Catholics to terrorism was authored with the help of sources such as the Southern Poverty Law Center, a notorious left-wing organization known for labeling conservative and pro-life groups as hate groups. The fact that the FBI relied on such ideologically driven sources to craft their narrative is extremely troubling and reeks of partisan bias.
Thankfully, FBI Director Christopher A. Wray put an end to the Richmond field office’s invasive investigation and distanced himself from the scandal. But the damage has already been done. The FBI’s targeting of traditional Catholics is a disgraceful abuse of power and a violation of the rights of every American who holds conservative values.
It’s time for Congress to hold the FBI accountable for their egregious overreach and restore the trust of the American people in our law enforcement agencies. The targeting of traditional Catholics is just the latest example of the deep-rooted bias and weaponization of government institutions against conservatives. The American people deserve better, and it’s up to our elected officials to ensure that such abuses of power are never repeated.
