Rep. Massie stated that he asked Speaker Johnson to resign during a closed-door meeting of the GOP conference. However, Speaker Johnson has made it clear that he will not resign, dismissing the threat as “absurd” and emphasizing the importance of a united front within the GOP.
Some Republicans, such as Rep. Bob Good from Virginia, are advocating for border security provisions to be added to the funding package for Ukraine. They argue that this issue is relevant to the bill and should be considered.
The fate of the foreign aid package remains uncertain, with GOP leaders working to determine its contents and at least 20 GOP lawmakers planning to vote against its advancement. Democrats have not committed to providing the additional votes needed to pass the package.
