In a shocking turn of events, the charges against Gold Star father Steve Nikoui have been dropped after he was wrongfully arrested for speaking out against President Joe Biden during the State of the Union address. Nikoui, the grief-stricken father of Lance Cpl. Kareem Nikoui, who tragically lost his life during the disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal under Biden’s watch, was attending the speech as a guest of Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL) when he was unjustly detained for refusing to stay silent.
But fear not, fellow patriots, justice has prevailed! Washington, D.C., Attorney General Brian Schwalb has made the right decision to not further prosecute Nikoui, with support from the office of House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA). It’s a shining example of real leadership, unlike the weak and feeble approach from the Biden administration.
The outrage from Republicans was swift and fierce, with Rep. Mast rightfully declaring, “Gold Star father Steve Nikoui should’ve never had to pay for Joe Biden’s failed withdrawal.” It’s a travesty that a grieving father was silenced for holding Biden accountable for the disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal that led to the deaths of not only brave U.S. service members but also numerous Afghan civilians.
Furthermore, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) echoed the sentiments of many, expressing gratitude for the charges being dropped and reaffirming that Nikoui “did nothing wrong.” It’s about time common sense prevailed in this unjust persecution of a grieving father.

Let’s not forget the stark contrast in treatment between Nikoui and Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY), who faced minimal consequences for pulling a fire alarm in the House building last year. The hypocrisy and double standards are glaring, with Nikoui facing arrest while Bowman received a mere slap on the wrist, despite both engaging in acts of protest.
The exoneration of Steve Nikoui is a small victory in the fight for accountability and justice in the wake of the Biden administration’s disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal. The memory of Lance Cpl. Kareem Nikoui and all the fallen heroes must never be forgotten, and their families deserve nothing less than our unwavering support and respect.
