If one were to measure political engagement by press conferences, Vice President Kamala Harris appears to have adopted a rather stealthy approach since entering the presidential race 71 days ago. Astoundingly, she has failed to hold any press conferences to discuss pressing issues that American families care about. It seems the Vice President is too busy dodging questions and changing her positions to face the press or the American people directly.
Joe Biden, in a moment of questionable trust—perhaps revealing more than he intended—suggested that he has handed over complete control of U.S. policy to Harris. This includes everything from domestic strategies to the as-far-away-as-the-moon foreign affairs. With such heavy responsibility resting on her shoulders, one might expect Harris to take the opportunity to address the nation and explain her plans. Instead, she made an eye-popping exit from a recent event featuring Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, sprinting away from the podium while leaving important questions hanging in the air like an unwelcome fart at a family reunion.
In her entire tenure, Harris has managed just five television interviews, each fraught with backlash. Critics, including prominent White House reporters, are left scratching their heads at her peculiar ability to either avoid providing answers or to present solutions that stretch credulity. The term “new way forward” has certainly been turned on its head, especially when the current administration’s policies seem as clear as a muddy pond. It’s been suggested she has access to all the “levers of power,” yet her actions seem more like those of an unplugged toaster—barely functional.

Her political positions have fluctuated more than a politician at a fundraiser. Since launching her campaign, Harris has apparently altered her stance—or completely flip-flopped—on a staggering 12 critical issues. Topics range from decriminalizing prostitution to her mysterious relationship with electric vehicle mandates. It appears that even the daily news cycle struggles to keep up with her ever-changing opinions. One wonders if her spokesperson has a wall covered with sticky notes just to keep track of her latest reversal on the issues.
To add salt to the wound, she has backed away from previously firm positions like supporting amnesty for so-called “Dreamers” and even rebuilding the border wall—items that would have made her the toast of her party just a few months ago. Now, she seems to be aiming for a political soft landing in time for the election. The depth of her inconsistency raises eyebrows and invites jokes, as Harris’s supporters may have to engineer a flowchart just to keep track of which random policy direction she will take next. No wonder she prefers to dodge questions at press conferences; the more she speaks, the more she reveals how lost she really is.
