Sports commentator Stephen A. Smith has sparked up some controversy by suggesting that Governor Gavin Newsom of California could swoop in as the Democratic presidential nominee in 2024. Smith didn’t hold back, claiming that the country is in desperate need of “a new president” and hinted that ol’ Joe Biden might not be up to snuff for a second term. According to Smith, the wrinkles on Biden’s face are multiplying faster than rabbits, and at 82 years old in 2024, he might just be too over the hill for the job.
In what seemed like a moment of temporary liberalism, Smith floated the idea of Newsom swooping in to save the day for the lefties. He predicted Newsom going head-to-head with whoever the Republicans throw into the ring, likely none other than former President Donald Trump. But Smith had some doubts about Trump securing the nomination, given the 91 indictments looming over his head like a dark cloud. He didn’t hold back, painting a picture of a dramatic showdown between Trump and Newsom, much to the delight of liberal daydreamers everywhere.
Sports journalist Stephen A. Smith suggested Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) could step in to become the 2024 Democratic presidential nominee, stating the United States needs "a new president."

But before anyone could get too excited and start packing their bags for a potential Newsom 2024 campaign trail, the California governor shut down the speculation faster than a kid running from broccoli. Newsom squashed the rumors, insisting that he had no interest in making a last-minute White House dash in 2024. And just to hammer the point home, during a debate with Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida, he joked that neither of them would be making a presidential bid in 2024.
Smith isn’t the only one shaking up the Biden reelection rumor mill. Radio host Charlamagne tha God also joined the party, adding some fuel to the fire by pointing out Biden’s age and dismal approval rating among voters. He even went as far as to call a potential Biden exit from the race the “ultimate Christmas gift” for voters.
The Washington Examiner reached out to Newsom’s office for a response, but it looks like the governor is too busy handling the Golden State to entertain any presidential daydreams. Looks like the 2024 Democratic ticket won’t be featuring Governor Newsom after all, and the lefties will have to find someone else to swoop in and save the day.
