Over 100 Arrested in Anti-Israel Protest Near Schumer’s Home

In New York City last night, a major disruption erupted due to anti-Israel protests, leading to the arrest of more than 100 demonstrators. The protest, dubbed “Seder in the Streets,” saw mostly young activists, many from Jewish backgrounds, rallying near Senator Chuck Schumer's home in Brooklyn. The demonstrators blocked traffic at Grand Army Plaza, chanting slogans like “Cease-fire now” and “Let Gaza live.” They locked arms, refusing to leave, which led to their arrest.

This isn't the first time protests have taken place at Senator Schumer's residence. In 2023, a similar demonstration was held outside his home at the onset of the Gaza conflict, drawing thousands of participants who called for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. During that protest, individuals carried a banner that read “Jews Say Stop the Genocide of Palestinians” and blocked the access to Schumer's street, resulting in 57 arrests, including two New York State Assembly Members.

Recently, some protesters have been accused of displaying antisemitic sentiments. However, Senator Schumer has opted for a careful approach, perhaps mindful of the need for broad political support ahead of the upcoming elections in November. When asked about the protests at Columbia University and those near his home, Schumer highlighted the value of peaceful protest and refrained from condemning the disruptive behavior of the demonstrators.
