Papua New Guinea PM Demands Biden Apologize for Cannibalism Comment

Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape kicked up quite the fuss after President Joe Biden made an oopsie during a campaign pitstop in Scranton, Pennsylvania. According to Reuters, Marape wasn’t too happy with Biden’s comments linking his country to cannibalism. The Prime Minister demanded that Biden clear the air and set the record straight in a statement released last Sunday.

“President Biden’s remarks may have been a slip of the tongue; however, my country does not deserve to be labeled as such,” said Marape in his statement. Ouch, Biden really stepped in it this time.

During his visit to Scranton, Biden got chatty about his uncle’s plane getting shot down near Papua New Guinea during World War II. In typical Biden fashion, his loose lips seemed to imply that his uncle was gobbled up by cannibals after the plane went kaput. “He got shot down in an area where there were a lot of cannibals in New Guinea at the time,” Biden said. Yikes, that’s a pretty big yikes, Mr. President.

Marape is now urging Biden and his team to do some damage control and clean up the mess from World War II. He’s especially keen on resolving the mysteries of missing servicemen like Ambrose Finnegan. After all, Papua New Guinea took quite the beating during the New Guinea campaign, with battles raging between the United States and the Empire of Japan from 1942 to 1945. It’s a darn shame that Biden’s tongue slip is bringing up these old wartime wounds.

So, let’s hope President Biden can smooth things over with Papua New Guinea and put this whole cannibalism fiasco to rest. And maybe next time, he can keep a lid on those pesky slip-ups.
