In recent events, tensions have flared in Boston regarding the treatment of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. Mayor Michelle Wu has stirred up controversy by downplaying the necessity of masks worn by these law enforcement officers. This discussion kicked off after a significant ICE operation in Boston, known as Operation Patriot, resulted in the arrests of a staggering 1,461 illegal immigrants, many of whom had criminal records. While the mayor expressed skepticism about mask-wearing by police, this has sparked a debate about the safety and protection of those who risk their lives to uphold the law.
Operation Patriot, the largest ICE operation ever conducted in Boston, saw agents apprehending not just anyone, but individuals with serious criminal backgrounds, including murderers, child rapists, and drug traffickers. The statistics are striking: out of the total arrests, 790 had prior criminal convictions or charges. 277 had final removal or deportation orders.
