Democratic New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her fellow members of the “squad” have been caught in a serious case of hypocrisy. Despite advocating to defund the police and pushing for policies that would leave everyday Americans vulnerable, these politicians have spent millions of dollars on private security for themselves. It seems that there is a different set of rules for them than for the rest of us.
According to The New York Post, Ocasio-Cortez and her squad have collectively spent over $1.2 million in campaign funds on private security since taking office. Cori Bush, a socialist representative from Missouri, leads the pack with over $730,000 spent on security, including $75,000 given to her own husband. Ocasio-Cortez isn’t far behind, having racked up a tab of over $272,000 for security upgrades at her district offices.
What makes this even more absurd is the fact that Bush’s campaign spending on security predates her arrival in Congress in 2021. She has been shelling out hundreds of thousands of dollars for security services since 2019. And to top it all off, her security firm of choice is a pro-gun, right-wing company called Peace Security. It’s quite ironic that she would support a firm that promotes the Second Amendment while championing anti-gun policies herself.
But the hypocrisy doesn’t end there. Bush, another vocal advocate for defunding the police, has paid her husband a whopping $30,000 for private security services. It’s clear that these politicians believe their safety is more important than the safety of the American people they claim to represent.
It’s time for these politicians to practice what they preach. If they truly believe in defunding the police, they should lead by example and give up their private security. But it seems that they only care about their own safety and not the safety of the average American. It’s just another example of the “rules for me, not for thee” mentality that is all too common among Democrats.
