Immediately following Murthy’s declaration, various national medical organizations, including the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics, were quick to express their support for this narrative. Dr. Ben Hoffman of the American Academy of Pediatrics emphasized the devastating impact of gun violence on children, while Dr. Georges C. Benjamin of the American Public Health Association echoed the sentiment, dubbing gun violence a “national tragedy” that is supposedly preventable.

ABC News, in typical mainstream media fashion, selectively reported statistics to push the narrative that gun violence is the leading cause of death among young Americans. With a focus on emotional impact rather than facts, the narrative conveniently ignores the truth that handguns, not so-called “assault weapons” like the AR-15, are the primary culprits in gun-related incidents.
The Democrat-driven push for gun control aims to erode the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens under the guise of public safety, all while turning a blind eye to the root causes of violence in urban communities. Rather than scapegoating firearms, perhaps Dr. Murthy should address the mental health issues of perpetrators and tackle the rampant cycle of leniency towards violent offenders in Democrat-controlled cities.
Ultimately, the absurdity of labeling “firearm violence” as a public health crisis is further highlighted by the fact that inanimate objects, such as the firearms used responsibly during a shooting session, do not spontaneously turn into instruments of violence. While Murthy and his allies push their agenda, law-abiding gun owners continue to exercise their rights without incident, proving once again that the real issues lie elsewhere.
