Scammers are the worst, aren’t they? Whether they’re calling you on the phone, sending you sketchy emails, or trying to slide into your DMs, they deserve all the trouble they can get. And one man is turning the tables on these con artists in a big way.

Enter Roger Anderson, the brilliant mind behind the Jolly Roger Telephone Company. After his son was sworn at by a telemarketer, Anderson decided enough was enough. He created an artificial intelligence call-deflection system that uses ChatGPT to keep scam callers talking in circles. This means the scammers are wasting their precious time with a chatbot instead of secretly stealing your money. And let me tell you, it’s hilarious.
Anderson’s AI-powered bots are so advanced that they can steer the conversation based on what the scammer is trying to sell. If they want to talk about debt consolidation, the bot will dive right in and even tease the scammer a little. If they want to talk about Medicare fraud, the bot will indulge them in a discussion about Medicare. It’s like a game of cat and mouse, and the scammers are definitely the mice.
Now, I have to admit, this whole AI call-deflection thing is a little silly. But it’s also genius. Because let’s face it, we can’t seem to stop the flood of unwanted calls on our own. The Federal Communication Commission (FCC) says that unwanted robocalls are their top complaint, with Americans receiving a staggering 4 billion robocalls per month. That’s billion with a B. And to make matters worse, phone scams cost Americans nearly $40 billion in just one year. That’s a lot of hard-earned cash going into the pockets of scammers.
But it’s not just a problem here in the good ol’ U-S of A. Phone scams are a global issue. Chinese scammers stole millions of dollars during the COVID pandemic. And let’s not forget about those Nigerian prince emails we all used to get. It’s a wild world out there, folks.
That’s why it’s so great to see people like Roger Anderson fighting back. And he’s not the only one. There’s a YouTube channel called Scammer Payback that is filled with hours of entertainment. This young man has actually managed to get scammers jailed. Talk about poetic justice.
So the next time you get a call from a scammer, remember that there are people out there like Roger Anderson and the Scammer Payback guy who are giving these scammers a taste of their own medicine. And for that, we should all applaud them. After all, scammers deserve whatever trouble honest citizens can cause them. Keep up the good fight, folks!
