Tennessee House Passes Bill to Allow Teachers to Carry Guns

Last year, Townhall reported an unfortunate incident in Nashville, Tennessee, where a person who identified as a “transgender” committed a mass shooting at a private Christian school. The shooter, Audrey Hale, had previously attended the school and gained access by shooting through the front glass doors. Tragically, six individuals lost their lives as a result of the shooting. The authorities were quickly alerted and Hale was fatally shot by Nashville police officers 14 minutes after the call regarding the active shooter.

This incident sparked discussions about “gun control” and the possibility of arming teachers. Recently, the Tennessee House passed a bill that would permit certain teachers and staff at public schools to carry concealed handguns on school premises without informing parents and other staff members about who was armed. The bill passed with a 68-28 vote and is currently under consideration by the Republican Governor Bill Lee.

Opposition to the bill was evident, as some members of the public expressed their disapproval to Republican lawmakers following the vote. Despite the opposition, the majority of Republican lawmakers, along with all Democrats, supported the bill. The proposed measure aims to create a deterrent against potential threats and would only disclose information about armed staff to school administrators and law enforcement.

Several other states, such as Texas, Florida, Arizona, Mississippi, and South Dakota, already allow teachers and staff to carry firearms under specific designations or programs.
