Sim Gill, the District Attorney of Salt Lake County, finds himself in hot water after launching a scathing attack on former President Donald Trump via social media. Gill’s latest online gem suggested that even a dead body would make a more competent president than Trump, claiming it would do significantly less damage to the democratic republic. Despite the ebbing waves of this political absurdity, the rhetoric has proven to be more than just a controversial quip; it has ignited a full-blown revolt among Utah’s Republican circles.
The backlash was swift and furious. Governor Spencer Cox, a Republican, wasted no time in condemning Gill’s callousness, especially given that Trump had just survived an assassination attempt a mere week earlier. The governor’s sentiments reflect the growing frustration among Utahns, who leveraged social media to express their disdain for Gill’s incendiary comment. Apparently, invoking the image of a dead body in the context of an actual life-or-death attack is just a little too far, even for the most hardened left-wing thinkers.
A new low for Sim following a literal assassination attempt. Disgusting. https://t.co/jnnLxLn0zL

Not long after this social media meltdown, prominent GOP figures began to call for Gill’s resignation. House Speaker Mike Schultz didn’t hold back in his condemnation, asserting that Utah residents “deserve better” than a district attorney who engages in such inflammatory rhetoric. Not only is Gill’s comment deemed toxic and partisan, but it also raises serious questions about his competence in enforcing the law impartially. The idea that a district attorney could describe someone—especially a former president—so flippantly speaks volumes to Gill’s questionable balance and judgment.
Adding another layer to this political theater, Gill’s history is far from squeaky clean. He has previously weathered storms for his decisions to avoid prosecuting alleged rapists and for his unwillingness to enforce stringent abortion laws, as well as for pushing forward progressive police reforms following the backlash from the Black Lives Matter movement. With this context, his latest rant fits the bill of a long-running narrative catered to a far-left agenda. It’s amusing how leftists in power often find themselves reaping the whirlwind of the outrage they sow.
In a feeble attempt to backtrack, Gill claimed that he never intended to incite division among the public and offered an apology to those he managed to offend. However, expressing regret for what was surely a misstep doesn’t quite erase the damage done. He further added that even an inanimate object could do less harm than Trump, suggesting that his comments weren’t so much critiques as they were proclamations on political ineptitude. As the Fraternal Order of Police in Utah chimes in, calling for a formal apology to Trump, it’s clear that Gill could use a lesson in political decorum, if not a complete course rewrite on how to engage with citizens respectfully.
