The White House has come out swinging against the despicable rise in false swatting operations aimed at judicial officials connected to the legal battles of our beloved former President Donald Trump. It seems that these dedicated public servants can’t even enjoy the holiday season without being targeted for heinous attacks.

Two respected members of the legal community, special counsel Jack Smith and New York Supreme Court Justice Arthur Engoron, have been recent victims of attempted swatting incidents. It’s truly a shame that these individuals, who are just trying to uphold the law and protect our rights, are being subjected to such vile acts.
An anonymous caller on Christmas Day attempted to have police storm Smith’s home, falsely claiming that he had shot his wife. And just a few days into the new year, Justice Engoron received a horrifying bomb threat at his own home on Long Island. It’s sickening to think that anyone would stoop so low as to intimidate and terrorize these esteemed figures in the legal community.
The lack of arrests in connection to these incidents is truly concerning, and it’s clear that more needs to be done to hold the perpetrators accountable for their cowardly actions. The fact that these calls are being investigated is a step in the right direction, but swift and decisive action must be taken to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
During a recent press briefing, the National Security Council spokesman John Kirby did little more than pass the buck, referring questions to the Justice Department and providing a rather lackluster response. It wasn’t until White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stepped up and forcefully denounced these swatting calls that the gravity of the situation was truly acknowledged.
The White House’s condemnation of these senseless threats and acts of violence against judicial officials is a welcome statement of support for our legal system. It’s heartening to see the administration take a strong stance on protecting those who are working tirelessly to uphold the rule of law, especially in the face of such reprehensible attacks.
It’s clear that these acts of intimidation and violence cannot be tolerated, and the White House’s steadfast condemnation sends a powerful message that those who seek to undermine our judicial system will not go unchallenged. Let’s hope that these words are backed up with meaningful action to ensure the safety and security of our dedicated judicial officials.
