Representative Lauren Boebert (R-CO) made waves on Tuesday as she issued articles of impeachment against President Joe Biden. The resolution, which was classified as privileged, will lead to a vote in the coming days. Boebert’s fiery speech took direct aim at Biden, criticizing him for his mishandling of the border crisis and his involvement in the ongoing bribery scandal that the House Oversight Committee is currently investigating.
Article 1, Abuse of Power, accuses Biden of violating his constitutional oath and “faithfully to execute the office of the President of the United States, and to the best of his ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.” According to Boebert, Biden’s negligence contributes to the rampant drug trafficking happening at the southern border, with 1.5 million illegal immigrants crossing into the United States on his watch.

Article 2, Dereliction of Duty, accuses Biden of neglecting his constitutional duty as President of the United States and failing to uphold the rule of law. Boebert vehemently criticized Biden for not taking care that the laws of the United States are faithfully executed, essentially rendering his position obsolete.
However, Boebert’s criticism of Biden did not stop there. She also called out the president for allowing illicit fentanyl to enter into the United States and acting in a manner that is “grossly incompatible” with his constitutional duty. The conclusion of Boebert’s speech advocated President Biden’s impeachment, trial, removal, and disqualification from holding any future offices of honor, trust, or profit under the United States.
The articles of impeachment, while not guaranteed to pass in Congress, are a direct challenge to President Biden’s leadership. Boebert is determined to hold the President accountable for his actions, and the coming days will undoubtedly hold further discussions and debates over Biden’s future in office. One can only hope that our Representatives conduct themselves with the seriousness and responsibility this matter requires.
