In Arizona, a member of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Border Patrol has been accused of making and sharing child pornography and having an unlawful gun, as reported by federal prosecutors. Nereo Mejia Gomez, Jr., who is 41 years old and resides in Yuma, is facing serious charges for his alleged actions. The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Arizona stated that Gomez is charged with creating child pornography, as well as distributing and possessing it. Additionally, he is charged with owning an unregistered firearm. Shockingly, the court documents suggest that Gomez made inappropriate materials involving a girl when she was just 15 and 16 years old, with the knowledge that these materials would be shared both in the United States and internationally.

It is deeply troubling to hear about the accusations against Gomez, especially considering his position as a Border Patrol agent. Those who are supposed to uphold the law and protect our borders should be held to the highest standards of conduct. The fact that Gomez is accused of exploiting minors and possessing illegal firearms raises serious concerns about his character and judgment. If these allegations are true, it is important that he faces severe consequences for his actions.
The court papers also indicate that Gomez allegedly shared pornographic materials involving a minor multiple times and was found in possession of disturbing images. The documents even suggest that one of the images may have depicted a very young child. Furthermore, it is alarming to learn that Gomez allegedly had an unregistered firearm in his possession. This type of behavior is unacceptable, especially from someone who is tasked with enforcing the law and protecting our communities.
If Gomez is convicted of these crimes, he could be sentenced to several decades in prison, along with substantial fines and a lifetime of supervised release. It is essential that justice is served in this case to send a clear message that such reprehensible behavior will not be tolerated, particularly from those in positions of authority.
