In a recent interview on “CNN News Central,” Chicago Alderman Brian Hopkins made it abundantly clear that he’s had it up to here with the influx of migrants pouring into his city. Hopkins, a Democrat, didn’t mince words when he pointed the finger at the Biden administration, declaring, “They have left us in the ditch with this, and that’s unacceptable.” And boy, does he have a point!
According to Hopkins, the city of Chicago is facing a real doozy of a problem. He painted a grim picture, saying they’ve got an influx of new residents who are making life miserable for the locals. Crime is on the rise, property values are headed south, and the very fabric of the community is unraveling faster than a cheap sweater. It’s a political crisis, it’s causing tension between communities, and it’s enough to make anyone’s hair stand on end.

Hopkins didn’t stop there. He let loose about the astronomical costs his city is shelling out to deal with a problem that, in his words, “didn’t even exist a year and a half ago.” Can you believe it? The nerve of the federal government to leave Chicago high and dry while they drain their coffers to the tune of $300 million – that’s about 5% of their federal municipal budget! And guess who’s footing the bill for this mess? Yep, you guessed it – the hardworking taxpayers of Chicago.
What’s more, Hopkins called out the Biden administration for dragging their feet on dealing with this crisis. He didn’t hold back in his frustration, saying, “Where’s the federal government been? Where has the Biden administration been?” It’s clear that he’s beyond exasperated with the whole situation, and who can blame him?
And Hopkins isn’t the only one raising the alarm. Other big-city mayors like Eric Adams of New York City and Brandon Johnson of Chicago are also begging for more federal support. They’re not pulling any punches either, with Johnson flat-out saying that the influx is “not sustainable” without “significant federal support.”
This is a clear wake-up call to the Biden administration: get it together and take responsibility for the mess you’ve let fester. Otherwise, it’s only going to get worse, and nobody – especially not the hardworking folks of Chicago – deserves that.
