In an exclusive interview with NewsNation, Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN) has straightforwardly suggested that President Joe Biden should step aside and let a fresh face take the lead for the Democratic Party in the 2024 election. Phillips believes that it’s not too late for Biden to “pass the torch” to a new generation of Democrats before the upcoming election. Phillips is oh so confident that if the Democrats perform well in states like New Hampshire and Michigan, it’s entirely possible for Biden to hand over the reins.
Phillips is banking on New Hampshire as his pathway to snatch the Democratic nomination from Biden, especially since the president’s campaign failed to file for the first-in-the-nation primary. He is putting all his eggs in the New Hampshire basket and praying for a strong start there to catapult him to victory in the rest of the country. And he’s not alone in this mission – there’s a write-in campaign for Biden in New Hampshire, but it’s just hanging by a thread because it lacks the time and resources of a full-blown presidential campaign.

The Minnesota Democrat is throwing shade at Biden’s capability to take on former President Donald Trump in the 2024 election. He confidently claims that he has not seen a shred of evidence that Biden is in a position to defeat Trump, despite facing criticism for his “alarmist” view of the polls. Phillips is not holding back in his challenge to Biden, emphasizing that democracy demands competition and practice, and he’s not about to let Biden slide through without a fight.
As if that’s not enough, Phillips is sitting at a mere 4% in national polling, hardly a big threat to Biden’s candidacy. However, he’s managed to grab 10% of the Democratic primary electorate in New Hampshire, gaining ground on Biden, who still leads at 65% support. His support in the state has been bolstered by Biden’s refusal to file for the primary, which caused his support to drop from 78%.
The New Hampshire primary is looming on the horizon, scheduled for January 23, and Phillips is ready to take on Biden head-to-head. Will he be able to convince enough Democrats that it’s time for a change in leadership, or will Biden retain his grip on the party’s nomination? Time will tell, but Phillips is not backing down without a good fight!
