Fauci Gives Nod of Approval to Surprising New NIAID Head

Dr. Jeanne Marrazzo has been named the new director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, taking over for Dr. Anthony Fauci. This news comes from the National Institutes of Health, who made the announcement on Wednesday. Dr. Marrazzo brings a lot to the table, with her experience as the director of the Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She has been involved in leading international clinical trials and research, and she knows how to handle a complex budget. The acting NIH director, Dr. Lawrence Tabak, is excited to have her on board and believes she will be a great addition to the team.

Now, I have to pause for a moment and talk about Dr. Fauci’s thoughts on this. The man just can’t resist an opportunity to make a statement, can he? He gave an interview to CNN and had nothing but glowing things to say about Dr. Marrazzo. He called her a “really good person” and said he was “very pleased by the choice.” But then, of course, he had to go on and start talking about politics. He warned Dr. Marrazzo about the “divisive political setting” she’ll be stepping into. Give me a break, Dr. Fauci. Can’t we just have a straightforward announcement without bringing politics into it?

Anyway, social media users have been quick to dig up clips of Dr. Marrazzo, trying to find something to criticize. They just can’t help themselves, can they? But I have no doubt that Dr. Marrazzo will prove them all wrong with her leadership and expertise. We wish her all the best in her new role at the NIH.
