On February 7th, Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders will be delivering the Republican response to President Joe Biden’s State of the Union Address. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy announced the news on Thursday, noting that Sanders will be giving her address from Little Rock, Arkansas.

The tradition of delivering a response to the State of the Union Address has been an informal one since 1966. Last year, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds gave the Republican response. Being chosen to give the rebuttal speech is seen as a sign of rising political stardom.
I’m honored to have the opportunity to address the nation after the State of the Union on Tuesday.
What America needs – and what Republicans are offering – is a return to common sense and a commitment to the ideals that made America the land of the free and home of the brave.

McCarthy noted that Sanders will be bringing forth ideas that reflect the wisdom of her father, Mike Huckabee, a former Arkansas governor and two-time Republican Presidential nominee. Sanders expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to address the nation and contrast the GOP’s optimistic vision for the future against the failures of President Biden and the Democrats. She also stated her commitment to defend freedom against the radical left and expand access to quality education, jobs, and opportunity for all.
At only 39 years old, Sanders is the youngest U.S. governor and the first female governor of Arkansas. She previously served as press secretary for former President Donald Trump. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell praised Sanders as a “powerful advocate for the popular, commonsense conservative principles that will put our country back on a better course.”
The State of the Union Address will begin at 9 p.m. ET and Sanders’ response will follow shortly after. This is an important moment for Sanders, as she is given the opportunity to showcase her conservative agenda and political prowess to a national audience. It is also a chance for her to demonstrate her commitment to defending freedom and expanding access to quality education, jobs, and opportunity for all. This is sure to be an exciting moment in American politics and many are looking forward to seeing what Sanders has to say.
