Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has once again interfered with American politics by calling for immigrants to vote against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis if he decides to run for president in 2024. The Mexican president has accused Governor DeSantis, who has been a vocal critic of President Biden’s open border policies, of advocating for “anti-immigrant” policies and persecuting migrants.
Lopez Obrador urged Hispanics in Florida to “wake up” and not give DeSantis a single vote, claiming that the governor’s politicking over migrants was solely to secure the Republican Party’s nomination. He also took aim at Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who has been similarly vocal about the Biden Administration’s lax border policies and has taken measures to combat illegal immigration.

Governor DeSantis recently signed into law the most comprehensive anti-illegal immigration legislation in the country. This move was made in response to President Biden’s border crisis, which has resulted in the entry of over 6.3 million illegal migrants into the country. Governor DeSantis has made it clear that he will not stand idly by while the federal government abandons its duty to protect the country, and the legislation he signed gives Florida the most ambitious anti-illegal immigration laws in the nation.
It’s disappointing to see foreign leaders interfere in American politics and attempt to influence the votes of American citizens. Governor DeSantis has made it clear that he is committed to protecting his state and the country from the dangers of illegal immigration, and any effort to infringe on the rights of American voters to choose their leaders is not only improper but downright unpatriotic. It’s clear that Mexico’s leadership has no respect for our sovereignty, and we must remain vigilant against any foreign meddling in our politics.
