According to FTV News of Taiwan, kids’ hospitals in Beijing and other areas have been packed to the brim with sick kiddos, and there’s even talk of shutting down schools. Folks are saying that the little ones are coming down with some kind of bacterial pneumonia without showing any symptoms except for a high fever. And, according to Radio Free Asia, this outbreak is bringing back a wave of serious sickness after a few years of no-COVID rules.

Parents and school staff are freaking out as more than 3,500 cases hit Beijing Children’s Hospital, putting a spotlight on a bacteria called Mycoplasma pneumonia. With waiting rooms overflowing and patients stuck waiting for over a whole day, the situation is getting real hairy, real fast.
But wait, there’s more! Some cases seem to be a mix of COVID-19 and this mystery pneumonia, while others are being chalked up to weakened immune systems from fighting off COVID-19. And guess what? This outbreak could be even bigger than we think, as it’s showing up in multiple places in China. Could it be on its way to the USA? Only time will tell.
Oh, and get this: parents are accusing the Chinese government of trying to sweep this whole thing under the rug, especially since they just relaxed all their COVID rules.
