Taxpayers Fund $84k Drug Party: County Buys Pipes & Foil for Addicts

The Multnomah County Health Department recently found itself in hot water after it was revealed that they spent over $84,000 on “smoking supplies” for local drug users. Yes, you heard that right. Your hard-earned tax dollars went towards buying drug paraphernalia. Isn’t that just fantastic?

Now, the county claims that this was all part of a harm reduction program. They wanted to provide safer equipment for drug use. But come on, folks! Are we really supposed to believe that giving out over 55,000 smoking pipes is going to reduce harm? That’s like saying giving out free candy will reduce tooth decay. It’s ludicrous!

I mean, just look at the breakdown of these purchases. They spent nearly $43,000 on different types of pipes. Stem pipes, bubble pipes, hammer pipes, meth pipes – you name it, they bought it. Talk about going above and beyond to cater to drug users. It’s like they’re treating this as a shopping spree rather than a responsible use of taxpayer money.

But it doesn’t stop there. They also spent over $21,000 on copper scouring pads and brass screens. Apparently, these are used as filters in the pipes. I don’t know about you, but I didn’t realize that drug users needed high-quality pipe filters. Maybe instead of spending our money on expensive filters, we should be investing in drug prevention and rehabilitation programs.

And let’s not forget about the $7,250 spent on aluminum foil. Yes, folks, our tax dollars were used to buy everyone’s favorite household item – aluminum foil! But this isn’t just any aluminum foil. No, this is aluminum foil specifically used for smoking certain substances. I don’t know about you, but I didn’t realize we needed government-funded foil for drug use.

But wait, there’s more! They also spent thousands of dollars on rubber mouthpieces and chapstick. Apparently, these are supposed to prevent the spread of bloodborne illnesses when sharing pipes. Look, I get it, we want to protect people’s health. But should we really be promoting drug use in the first place? Instead of spending money on harm reduction, let’s focus on getting people off drugs altogether.

The Multnomah County Health Department can defend their program all they want, but the truth is, this is a complete waste of taxpayer money. Instead of enabling drug users and making it easier for them to engage in destructive behavior, we should be investing in real solutions. It’s time for the county to take a hard look at their priorities and start putting the needs of law-abiding citizens first.
