WATCH: Geraldo Rivera Gets HEATED With Lawence Jones on Migrant Work Permits

Fox News anchors Geraldo Rivera and Lawrence Jones were in a heated disagreement on Friday over the idea of granting work permits to migrants who enter the United States illegally. Rivera argued that there are approximately 40,000 migrants who need shelter and extra help, and the solution to their problem is granting them expedited work permits. He added that the migrants would use the work permits’ benefits to pay for their hotel rooms.

Jones was quick to disagree with Rivera’s idea, stating that it does not make sense to grant work permits to people who broke the law. He continued that there should be consequences to entering the country illegally. Besides, by granting work permits to illegal immigrants, it will incentivize more people to follow suit, which can be disastrous for the country.

Governor of New York, Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul, has labeled people who oppose taking in migrants as “bigoted” while proposing the idea of using aircraft hangars at JFK International Airport to house migrants. Meanwhile, Republican Govs. Greg Abbott of Texas and Doug Ducey of Arizona started busing migrants to New York and other “sanctuary” cities.

In Fiscal Year 2023, records from United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) show that 1.2 million illegal immigrants were encountered at the U.S.-Mexico border, with Fox News reporting that 600,000 migrants evaded the CBP.

Rivera argues that the illegal immigrants are vital to the U.S. economy as they have taken up important manual labor jobs in places like the pizza delivery and restaurant industry.

Jones, however, argues that the migrants’ entry into the U.S was illegal, and rewarding them with work permits would only make more people do the same.

Residents of big cities like Chicago and New York City have already protested the idea of sheltering migrants, citing concerns over safety and the potential for allowing migrants to participate in local politics.

Rivera believes that migrants should be given a chance to live the American dream, but Jones disputes this by arguing that they haven’t played by the rules and granting work permits will be rolling out the red carpet for them.

These developments show that there is a split between conservatives and liberals on the right solution to the problem of migrants. While Democrats are offering easy solutions, Republicans believe that there have to be consequences for breaking the law.
