Biden’s Border Team Crumbles: Top Officials Resign Amid Chaos & Record Crossings

Under Joe Biden, John Tien, who was the Deputy Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, resigned from his position. Several high-ranking officials within the agency have also left their positions in recent months.

According to Tien's official reasons for quitting, he wanted to spend more time with his family. However, this comes after he talked about his new challenge in the job and how he wanted to be heard and seen.

The departure of US Customs and Border Protection officials following the disastrous three years of Joe Biden's presidency is no surprise given the increasing number of illegal border crossings. The situation is likely to get worse after the Trump administration's Title 42 border controls were lifted in May. Tien refused to discuss whether or not illegal border crossings should be considered a crime.

Despite the pressure to reduce the number of crossings, Magnus was still distracted by his other priorities. On the other hand, Ortiz, who only started his job in 2021, wanted to retire.

During his trip to the southern border of the US in May, Senator Ted Cruz of Texas revealed the alarming number of illegal crossings. In just a month, more than 35,000 Venezuelans entered the country through the illegal border. Despite the situation's seriousness, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party, Robert Kennedy Jr., stated that the border crisis could be solved by the right administration.

The frequent resignations of Biden's border team members are most likely the result of the southern border's management issues related to illegal immigration. His term has been a major issue regarding border controls, and more officials might soon follow suit.
