President Joe Biden suffered a dramatic fall last week, causing widespread concern over his health and if he is fit to be the leader of the free world. Despite these concerns, the White House has been quick to downplay the seriousness of the fall and shut down any questions about Biden’s well-being.
During a press briefing on Thursday, when asked if the White House has taken any steps to ensure the president does not fall again, the White House press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, tactlessly avoided answering the question and instead began touting Biden’s record. “This is a president that has had an incredibly impressive first two years,” she said. “Things happen. Other presidents have had similar situations,” Jean-Pierre continued dismissively when pressed by the reporter.

This is not the first time that Jean-Pierre has attempted to downplay Biden’s fall. Despite video footage clearly showing the president struggling to regain his footing, the press secretary insisted that “he tripped over a sandbag on the stage, and briefly he tripped and got up, and he got right back up.”
Former White House physician and current Texas Republican Rep. Ronnie Jackson has long been critical of Biden’s mental and physical health. In February, Jackson spoke out, stating that “the majority of Americans can see that Biden’s mental health is in total decline, yet there is no transparency from the White House on what’s going on.”
It is concerning that the Biden administration seems content with brushing off legitimate concerns about the president’s fitness to lead. American citizens deserve transparency and accountability from their leaders, but it seems as though the current administration is more focused on saving face than addressing legitimate concerns about the president’s health.
