Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) didn’t hold back during a recent Senate hearing when he took Biden’s DHS Secretary, Alejandro Mayorkas, to task for his handling of the ongoing border crisis. Kennedy made it clear that he believes Mayorkas is guilty of failing to address the border crisis adequately, and he’s not the only one who feels this way.

Kennedy pointed out that, despite being in the position for three years, Mayorkas has done little to address the staggering number of illegal immigrant encounters at the southern border. He emphasized that under Mayorkas’ leadership, illegal immigrants have seemingly fared better than U.S. citizens, a fact that he finds troubling and unacceptable.
In a tweet, Kennedy expressed his concern that Senate Democrats may attempt to downplay the seriousness of the situation, but he’s determined to ensure that the #BorderCrisis does not get swept under the rug. He further criticized Democrats for potentially disregarding the established Senate precedent in handling Mayorkas’s impeachment.
The senator also pointed out a potential consequence of the surge in illegal immigration, suggesting that the increased population in certain states due to illegal immigrants could impact the allocation of electoral votes. This connection led him to question whether the influx of illegal immigrants was being used to bolster the electoral power of certain states, despite those individuals being ineligible to vote in federal elections.
Mayorkas denied the accusation that the administration was intentionally allowing illegal immigration and brushed off the effort to impeach him as a distraction from other national security priorities. However, Kennedy remained steadfast in his criticism, highlighting the damage caused by the border crisis under the Biden administration’s watch.
While DHS attempted to discredit the impeachment as a distraction, Kennedy’s bold statements during the hearing reflect the growing frustration and distrust among Republicans towards Mayorkas and the Biden administration’s handling of the border crisis. It’s evident that the fight over the border crisis is far from over, and with Republicans pushing for a full trial, the situation remains a focal point of tension in the political arena.
