House Judiciary to Probe Bragg, Colangelo Over Trump Case

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and prosecutor Matthew Colangelo are set to testify before the House Judiciary Committee on July 12 to discuss the case against former President Donald Trump. The committee, led by Chairman Jim Jordan, has been investigating the attorneys over allegations that they pursued the criminal case against Trump to thwart his reelection bid.

In addition to their testimony, the committee plans to hold a broader oversight hearing related to the case, featuring testimony from witnesses such as the commissioner of the Federal Election Commission and Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey. The committee is also considering issuing subpoenas to other officials, including New York Attorney General Letitia James and U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland.

Specifically, the committee aims to question Colangelo’s involvement in Trump’s conviction, considering his previous work in the Biden administration’s Justice Department and in James’s office. Republicans have accused Colangelo of targeting Trump for political reasons rather than genuine concerns about crime.

Chairman Jordan has emphasized that the hearing will examine politically motivated prosecutions of federal officials, particularly the case brought against President Donald Trump by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office. The committee seeks to address concerns about the potential abuse of power in prosecuting political figures.

The upcoming testimony and hearings reflect the ongoing scrutiny of the case against Trump and the motives behind pursuing criminal charges. The committee’s focus on the conduct of state and local prosecutors in politically charged cases underscores the importance of fair and impartial treatment in the legal system.
