State Rep. Michael Wray’s campaign is not throwing in the towel just yet. Despite being 35 votes behind in the Democratic primary for District 27, Wray is not ready to concede defeat. And why should he? He’s won 10 two-year terms, after all.

Wray’s campaign has taken their fight to the next level by filing protests in three North Carolina counties. They are determined to ensure that every valid ballot is counted, and who can blame them? In politics, every vote counts, and when you’re behind by only 35 votes out of more than 11,000 cast, you’re bound to leave no stone unturned.
Wray’s opponent, Rodney Pierce, has no Republican opponent in November, which makes Wray’s battle all the more crucial. If the certification goes in Pierce’s favor, Wray would be left in the dust, and we can’t have that, can we?
The campaign’s protests are not about changing the rules; they’re simply about ensuring that no valid ballot is left uncounted. Wray’s team is following the procedures set forth in North Carolina law, and they are determined to see this through to the end. After all, it’s their right to make sure that every vote is counted, and they’re not going to let anyone take that away from them without a fight.
The county boards of elections are still in the process of canvassing the Super Tuesday primaries, and until the state Board of Elections gives certification, nothing is set in stone. The total number of votes cast has even increased since the day after the election, so who knows what could happen next?
