In a not-so-surprising turn of events, former President Donald Trump has lashed out at President Joe Biden and the Department of Justice over the appointment of U.S. Attorney David Weiss as special counsel in the Hunter Biden investigation. Trump’s spokesperson, in a predictably fiery statement, accused the Biden family of an array of crimes, including lying to the American people and selling out the country for financial gain. It seems like Trump just can’t resist taking a swing at “Crooked Joe Biden” and his “enablers.”
The investigation into Hunter Biden’s alleged money laundering scheme has been going on since 2019, with federal investigators in Delaware even subpoenaing his notorious laptop. Under Weiss’ leadership, the investigation resulted in a failed plea deal, which left many Republicans and Trump supporters feeling unsatisfied. They viewed the agreement as a “sweetheart deal” and criticized what they perceive as a “two-tier” Justice Department that goes easy on the Bidens while going after Trump.

It’s no secret that Trump and his allies have had issues with the Justice Department and the media’s handling of the Hunter Biden case. They accuse the DOJ of protecting the Bidens and colluding with the media to downplay the laptop scandal. Trump’s spokesperson called for consequences against Joe Biden, Hunter Biden, and everyone involved, including the media. Now that Weiss has been appointed as special counsel, it remains to be seen whether he will bring any new charges or if the case will go to trial.
Meanwhile, the White House and the Biden administration have chosen to remain silent on Weiss’ appointment. Perhaps they’re hoping that a lack of comment will make the controversy go away. But with Trump and his passionate supporters always ready to pounce on any perceived wrongdoing by the Bidens, it seems unlikely that this issue will fade into the background anytime soon. After all, when it comes to the politics of scandal, it’s hard to beat the ongoing saga of the Biden family.
