Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) has come out to strongly criticize President Joe Biden for vetoing a bipartisan bill that sought to put an end to Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (ESG) in support of a radical agenda. According to Senator Manchin, the president’s decision to prioritize a radical policy agenda over the economic and national security needs of the United States is truly disheartening.

As West Virginians struggle to recover from the pandemic, pay bills, and face the largest land war since World War II, the administration’s continuous campaign to advance a radical social and environmental agenda is only making things worse. The senator argues that rather than prioritizing the American people’s needs, the administration is focusing more on implementing its radical policies, causing more harm than good.

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) also criticized President Biden’s veto, stating that the administration is allowing woke financial institutions to put the pursuit of left-wing political policies above the financial security of American seniors and families. The legislation in question prevented Biden’s administration from taking environmental, social, and corporate governance issues into account when making investment decisions. Republicans argue that ESG is a measure of a corporation’s loyalty to “woke” cultural movements and should, therefore, not be taken into account.
While President Biden cited a risk to retirement savings as the reason for his veto, his decision may backfire as it directly contrasts his claims of unifying the nation. Instead, the president’s reckless actions are only supporting the views of a small percentage of Americans. The American people expect their leaders to prioritize their needs and not push through radical policies that are detrimental to their well-being.
