Republican lawmakers are opposing Rep. Lauren Boebert’s (R-CO) push to impeach President Joe Biden, calling the move “frivolous.” Boebert has been vying for a vote to impeach Biden over what she calls the President’s negligence concerning the U.S. border, which threatens the safety of Americans against the influx of deadly fentanyl and other criminal activities. Moreover, Boebert further argues that Biden has failed to alleviate the burden on the US immigration system. She has taken to Twitter, saying she will be bringing her articles of impeachment against Joe Biden to the House Floor in a privileged motion, meaning that every Member of Congress must vote on holding Joe Biden accountable.

Boebert claims that Biden unconstitutionally violated his duty under Article II of the Constitution to “take care that the laws be faithfully executed” and deliberately disregarded the US’ immigration laws, allowing an invasion along our southern border. Therefore, the Congress should impeach Biden and hold him accountable for his egregious violations of his oath of office if it wants to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution.
However, Republican leaders believe that Boebert’s move is not the right thing to do. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy told reporters, “This is one of the most serious things you can do as a member of Congress. I think you’ve got to go through the process. You’ve got to have the investigation. And throwing something on the floor actually harms the investigation that we’re doing right now.”
Notably, Republicans understand that the votes needed to impeach Biden are not there. Despite having a slim majority in the House, the Senate would oppose the effort, and any Republican who voted against the attempt would face complications. Moreover, while many Americans would like to see a new President, Boebert’s effort appears more like a publicity stunt than a strategy to make it happen.
In conclusion, while Republicans agree that Biden’s border policies are detrimental to America, they believe that Boebert’s push for impeachment is the wrong move, and the right steps need to be followed first.
