House Panel Slams Bragg for Trump Witch Hunt

The House Judiciary Committee recently released a report accusing Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg of engaging in a political witch hunt against former President Donald Trump. The report suggests that Bragg has been using the criminal justice system to target Trump since at least 2018, relentlessly digging into his personal and business affairs in a desperate attempt to find something to charge him with. According to the committee, when one legal theory fails, Bragg simply shifts to another one in a biased effort to prosecute Trump.

The committee’s findings were based on evidence from a former Special Assistant District Attorney, Mark F. Pomerantz, who wrote a book detailing his time at the Manhattan DA’s office. The report claims that Pomerantz resigned and published the book as a way to pressure Bragg into going after the former president. Despite the lack of charges from the previous district attorney, Cyrus Vance, Bragg decided to charge Trump with 34 felony counts using what the committee calls a questionable legal theory.

In addition to the questionable legal basis for the charges, the committee raised concerns about the reliance on Michael Cohen as a key witness. Cohen, a convicted perjurer with a clear bias against Trump, has serious credibility issues that could undermine the case against the former president. Just the News highlighted Cohen’s credibility problems and his shifting statements regarding incriminating evidence against Trump related to hush money payments.

This report sheds light on how some prosecutors may abuse their power for political purposes, unfairly targeting individuals they politically disagree with. It is essential for prosecutors to uphold the rule of law and ensure fair treatment for all individuals, regardless of their political beliefs. The findings in this report highlight the need for accountability and integrity within the justice system to prevent unjust political prosecutions from occurring.
