Kamala Harris Meets Kim Kardashian to Discuss Clemency and Reform Efforts

Vice President Kamala Harris welcomed TV personality Kim Kardashian to the White House on Thursday to talk about ways to help people who have been convicted of nonviolent crimes. This meeting happened after President Joe Biden announced that he had granted clemency, or forgiveness, to 16 people who were in jail for drug offenses.

During the meeting, Vice President Harris thanked Kardashian for using her voice and platform to bring attention to the importance of giving people another chance. Kardashian expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to keep working on issues like this and learn from different administrations.

Kardashian’s first meeting about clemency was with the previous president, Donald Trump. She encouraged Vice President Harris to keep working on making it easier for people who have been in prison to start their own businesses and get help in order to achieve their goals.

Since 2019, Kardashian has helped around 30 people get out of jail after being convicted of different crimes, including drug offenses and murder. She also worked with President Trump to help pass the First Step Act, a law that aims to reduce long prison sentences and improve conditions for people who are in jail. These individuals who were released have gone on to buy homes, get tattoos removed, and even work for Kardashian’s shapewear line.

This meeting at the White House highlights ongoing efforts to help people who have been in prison and to discuss how to continue making changes in the criminal justice system.
