In a not at all surprising turn of events, former soccer star Megan Rapinoe is advocating once again for transgender athletes to compete in women’s sports. Despite the fact that she faced a defeat at the hands of a team of teenage boys a few years ago, Rapinoe is now pushing to allow men who identify as women to participate in women’s sporting events.
Rapinoe signed a letter alongside numerous other athletes, urging the NCAA to guarantee that transgender athletes can compete against women in championship and emerging sports. The letter claims that excluding transgender athletes severely limits the capacity of member institutions to protect and support their athletes. It also argues that studies used to justify the exclusion of transgender athletes are flawed and further discrimination.

This isn’t the first time Rapinoe has inserted herself into politically charged issues. She has been an outspoken advocate for LGBT rights and has garnered attention for her left-wing political stances.
In a rather embarrassing turn of events for Rapinoe, in 2017, the U.S. Women’s National Team, which she was a part of at the time, faced off against the FC Dallas under-15 boys team and lost 5-2.
