In a recent state senate debate on crime, Wisconsin State Senator La Tonya Johnson (D-Milwaukee) made quite the statement when she yelled, “F*** the suburbs!” Well, isn’t that charming? It’s always nice to see our elected officials engaging in intelligent dialogue and showing respect for their constituents.
Now, let’s take a moment to appreciate the irony here. Johnson represents the 6th District, which includes Milwaukee, a city known for its high crime and gun violence rates. And yet, she has the audacity to criticize the suburbs and claim that suburban dwellers know nothing about life in the city. Bless her heart.
But wait, it gets even better. You see, Johnson isn’t even from Milwaukee or Wisconsin for that matter. She actually hails from a teeny tiny town in Tennessee called Lagrange. With a population of 123, I’m not even sure if we can call it a town. And yet, she has the nerve to act like an expert on urban living. Talk about living in a parallel universe.
To add to the hilarity, Johnson runs a home-based business called Anointed Child Care Services. Yes, you read that right. This woman who bashes the suburbs so vehemently is running a daycare out of her own suburban home. I guess she knows all about the struggles of city life from her cozy little sanctuary.
Now, let’s take a moment to appreciate the beauty of Johnson’s own suburban abode. Her home is a spacious 2,879 square feet with three bedrooms. It’s nestled in a lovely, tree-lined neighborhood, far away from the “mean streets” of Milwaukee. It must be nice to criticize suburbanites while enjoying the comforts of suburban living herself.
So, what can we take away from this little outburst on the state senate floor? Well, it seems like Johnson is just another politician who likes to grandstand and make outrageous statements to get attention. It’s all about the theatrics, folks.
But hey, at least she’s consistent. She’s consistent in her hypocrisy, that is. She wants to bash the suburbs and pretend like she’s some urban champion, all while enjoying the perks of suburban living. It’s a classic case of “do as I say, not as I do.”
In the end, we can all have a good laugh at Johnson’s expense. While she may think she’s making a profound statement, all she’s really doing is showing her true colors and revealing the disconnect between herself and the people she claims to represent. Keep up the good work, Senator Johnson. The suburbs thank you for the entertainment.
