Those pesky Democrats are always trying to take away the American people’s guns, but it looks like they’ll have to come up with another sneaky plan because a federal appeals court just recognized that even butterfly knives are legally protected for self-defense. Ha! Take that, gun grabbers!
A three-judge panel from the Ninth Circuit, including two appointees from former President Donald Trump himself, struck down Hawaii’s ban on butterfly knives, ruling that they are considered “arms” under the Second Amendment. This is a significant ruling because it recognizes that the right to self-defense is fundamental and not dependent on the type of tool a person uses.
The original ban was upheld by a lower court, but thank goodness those conservative judges on the appeals panel saw the light. They found that the right to keep and bear butterfly knives is “presumptively guaranteed” by the Second Amendment, just like guns. I mean, who would have thought that knives are considered “arms” too? It’s almost as if the founders didn’t intend to restrict our ability to protect ourselves.
The court even cited the Supreme Court’s new test for gun control regulations, which requires historical tradition behind any restrictions. And guess what? Butterfly knives have a historical tradition! Judge Bea, who wrote the opinion for the Ninth Circuit, pointed out that at the time the Second Amendment was adopted, “arms” included bladed weapons. So, according to his logic, butterfly knives fall under our constitutional right to keep and bear arms. Brilliant!
But Hawaii tried to argue that butterfly knives are dangerous and unusual, just like those scary assault weapons that Democrats are always banning. But the court didn’t buy it. Judge Bea called the butterfly knife “simply a pocketknife with an extra rotating handle.” Nothing to see here, folks. Move along.

This ruling is a victory for the Second Amendment and a blow to those who want to infringe on our right to self-defense. It’s another example of how the Supreme Court’s ruling in Bruen has been a game-changer for gun rights. I mean, come on, it’s about time the courts recognized our basic right to protect ourselves. Who knows what other insidious plans the Democrats have up their sleeves, but for now, at least we can keep our butterfly knives. Stay sharp, conservatives!
